Associate Director– Preclinical Ophthalmology

You are a senior preclinical ophthalmology scientist. You know the difference between running studies and driving decisions, and you want the latter. You want ownership of programmes, freedom to choose the right models, and the ability to see your work move quickly towards the clinic. We are partnering with a multinational biopharma developing medicines for ophthalmology diseases and operating a lean, high‑impact R&D model. The organisation has a strong track record of delivery, currently operating with 5 clinical stage Ophthalmology assets. They combine an experienced internal research team with deep academic and CRO partnerships, allowing experienced scientists to move fast, cut through process, and focus on what matters scientifically.This is a senior individual contributor role at the centre of preclinical decision‑making. You will own 1–2 ophthalmology programmes across front‑ and back‑of‑eye diseases, shaping indication strategy, model selection and proof‑of‑mechanism rather than simply executing predefined plans. Because you are trusted to challenge legacy approaches, you will generate morepredictive data and drive clearer translational decisions.You will design and interpret in vivo and in vitro studies that directly link mechanism to disease biology, enabling confident progression towards the clinic. By coordinating academic collaborators and CROs, you retain scientific control while benefiting from fast, flexible execution. You will also have the opportunity to reposition existing molecules into new ophthalmology indications, unlocking additional value across the portfolio.Working within a global matrix team, you will act as a senior scientific voice with high visibility and influence while having a real chance of progressing your projects into the clinic.
